1936 US Olympic Rowing Gold Medal Race Footage
As Hitler watched, the US Olympic Rowing
Team got off to a horrible start in the
men's eight Gold medal race. With the
crowd shouting "Deutschland," the US found
themselves in the back of the pack by the
middle of the 2,000-meter race. Suddenly,
Don Hume, who had been battling a
respiratory illness, picked up the pace,
propelling the team to the front of the
pack and a Gold medal win. This video
includes footage from the 1936 Olympic
