1967 Detroit Riots Documentary
Fifty years after the Detroit riots and
the Algiers Motel deaths in the summer of
1967, this
CBS Sunday Morning
documentary segment takes a look back at
the unrest in Detroit. It includes
interviews with a former black police
officer who was shot at by white cops on
his way home from work during the riots,
and security guard Melvin Dismukes who was
tried for assault when police tried to
place blame on him for what happened at
the Algiers Motel, allegations that were
never founded. Dismukes is a central
character in Kathryn Bigelow's
Detroit film and is portrayed by
John Boyega.
