Abdication of King Edward VIII: A British Coup

This King Edward VIII abdication documentary sheds new light on the biggest crisis in recent royal history. King Edward VIII took over the throne when his father, King George V, passed away in early 1936. At the time, Edward was in love with a twice-divorced American named Wallis Simpson. A potential marriage was opposed by the government and monarchy since both of Simpson's ex-husbands were still alive. Royal and government officials who didn't like King Edward VIII's less-than conventional habits saw it as a way to force him to abdicate, replacing him with his tamer and more obedient brother.
