The movie embraces his claim that he came up with the idea for the snack, despite a 2021 Los Angeles Times article that disputed his claim. Frito-Lay stated that they "do not credit the creation of Flamin' Hot Cheetos or any Flamin' Hot products to him" but value his "many contributions to our company, especially his insights into Hispanic consumers."
