Loving v. Virginia Oral Arguments (1967)
Listen to the oral arguments from the
Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court
case, which was heard on April 10, 1967.
Lawyers Bernard S. Cohen and Philip J.
Hirschkop argue for the plaintiffs,
Richard Loving and Mildred Loving, an
interracial married couple who had been
kicked out of the state of Virginia for
violating a state law that banned blacks
and whites from living together as married
couples. Cohen argues that such laws are
essentially slavery laws that violate the
Fourteenth Amendment.
