Valery Legasov Chernobyl Interview (1986)
Airing on NBC in 1986, this Valery Legasov
interview took place at the time of the
International Atomic Energy Agency
conference in Vienna. American host Carol
Marin asks Legasov if all of the Chernobyl
type reactors should be shut down instead
of repaired, given the design flaws. The
scientist responds by saying that after
the flaws were understood, measures were
taken so that reactors of that type can
operate safely into the future.
